Here's what we were working with on this one - a crawl space packed with debris, torn-up plastic sheeting, scattered materials, and evidence of a serious rodent problem. Dead rodents, droppings, and nesting materials don't just sit there harmlessly. They contaminate the air that moves up through your floors and into your living space every single day.

We started with a full debris removal. Everything had to come out before we could do anything else. Old plastic, construction waste, rodent remnants - all of it cleared so we were working with a clean slate. It's not glamorous work, but skipping this step would make everything that comes after pointless.

Once the space was cleaned out, we installed a new vapor barrier across the entire crawl space floor. A proper vapor barrier installation is what keeps ground moisture from working its way up into your subfloor and floor joists. Left unchecked, that moisture is what causes wood rot, mold, and the musty smell that seeps into the house above. We also added support jacks to shore up structural integrity where it was needed.

The difference between what we started with and what we left behind is significant. A clean, dry, properly sealed crawl space is one of the most overlooked things a homeowner can do for the long-term health of their house. It protects your floors, your air quality, and your foundation - all at once. If your crawl space hasn't been looked at in a while, there's a good chance it needs attention.
