Crawl spaces in South Mississippi get beat up. High humidity, ground moisture, and heavy rain seasons - it all adds up fast. Left untreated, a wet crawl space becomes a breeding ground for mold, wood rot, and pest activity. That moisture doesn't just stay under the house either. It works its way up into your living space and quietly causes damage that gets expensive in a hurry.
This Moss Point home got the full treatment. We went in and laid a clean vapor barrier across the entire floor and up the foundation walls, fastened tight and sealed properly. That alone makes a huge difference - but we didn't stop there. The system also includes two sump pumps with drainage tubes to handle any water intrusion, a dehumidifier to control the air quality long-term, and a condensate pump to manage drainage from the unit itself. Every piece of this system works together.
That's the thing about crawl space encapsulation done right - it's not just one product. It's a layered system. The vapor barrier handles ground moisture. The sump pumps handle water entry. The dehumidifier keeps humidity levels in check so the air under your home stays dry year-round. When you skip any one of those components, you're leaving a weak point in the system.
We also built and installed a solid wood access door on the exterior crawl space opening, complete with hardware latches. It fits clean and keeps the space properly sealed off from outside air and critters. These finishing details matter just as much as the work inside.
A job like this one protects the structural integrity of the home, improves indoor air quality, and gives the homeowner real peace of mind knowing what's happening under their feet. This is what a properly built crawl space system looks like.
