This one was a mess before we got started. Debris scattered across the ground, old deteriorating materials, random trash - even some crushed cardboard boxes stacked under the access point. No vapor barrier, no protection. Just an open, neglected crawl space sitting under someone's home doing damage quietly.
Here's the thing about crawl spaces on the Gulf Coast - they don't get better on their own. The humidity down here is relentless, and an unprotected crawl space is basically an open invitation for moisture to work its way into your floor joists, your subfloor, and eventually the air you're breathing inside your home. Ignoring it is a gamble most homeowners don't realize they're taking.
We cleared everything out first. All the debris, old material, all of it gone. Then we laid a heavy-duty vapor barrier across the entire ground surface, wrapping it up around the support columns and sealing it properly along the walls. The difference between a half-done job and a job that actually holds up long-term comes down to how well that barrier is fitted and sealed. We don't cut corners on that.
The after speaks for itself. Clean ground cover running wall to wall, support columns wrapped and protected, and a space that's actually doing its job now - keeping ground moisture where it belongs, out of your home. That's what a proper crawl space encapsulation looks like.
If your crawl space hasn't been looked at in years, or ever, it's worth finding out what's going on down there. A neglected crawl space is one of those things that costs a lot more to fix the longer it sits.
