Massive White Rot Found During Crawl Space Assesment in Cantonment

We do a lot of Assessments. But this one in Cantonment, Florida stopped us in our tracks. This is one of the largest white rot wood decay growths we have ever come across - and we have seen a lot.

White rot is not just ugly. It is actively breaking down the structural fibers of the wood it grows on. Over time, it strips away the lignin and cellulose that give wood its strength. What you are left with is soft, spongy, compromised framing that cannot do its job. The support holding up the floors above this crawl space has taken a serious hit.

Here is the thing about moisture damage like this - it does not announce itself. It builds quietly, out of sight, underneath your home. By the time there is a soft spot in your floor or a door that won't close right, the damage is usually well past the early stage. That is exactly why crawl space inspections matter. Catching it before it gets worse is always the better path.
